Getting started

What is a virtual office?

A virtual office gives your business a professional address, telephone answering and somewhere to meet clients, without renting an office. VOffice provides a Mayfair or City of London address, a receptionist who answers in your company’s name, and meeting rooms at 49 St James’s Street, all on monthly terms.

You choose the services you need and add others as your business grows.

How do I sign up with VOffice?

Send us an enquiry or call 020 7917 9917. We’ll talk through what you need, then send our application form, which asks for your company details and identity documents. Once the checks are complete, your service begins.

Already know what you want? Start your application.

Why do you need identity documents?

As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP No. AP016696), VOffice is required by UK anti-money-laundering regulations to verify every client before providing an address or other services. It protects you, us and the reputation of the address.

The application asks for certified copies of your certificate of incorporation and proof of your registered address.

How quickly can my service start?

Once your identity checks are complete, we set up your service the same day. Call 020 7917 9917 if you need to start by a particular date.

Every new account has a one-off £100 setup fee, which covers the identity checks we’re required to carry out.

Can I combine services?

Yes. Many members combine a London address with telephone answering and book meeting rooms as they need them. Everything is managed by one team, with a personal account manager for your service.

7 questions

Telephone answering

What does a virtual receptionist do?

A virtual receptionist answers your business calls live, greeting each caller with your company name. Depending on your instructions, they put the call through to you, take a detailed message, or politely screen out sales and nuisance calls.

VOffice can also book appointments and handle outbound customer service calls. See telephone answering.

Where are your receptionists based?

Every call is answered by our own team, based in Mayfair, London. We never send your calls to an overseas call centre.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes. Divert your current number to the line we give you and your callers won’t notice any change. If you’d like a new London number, every answering membership includes a dedicated 0207 number.

What is the difference between an 020 and an 0207 number?

They are the same thing. Every London number starts with 020, and numbers beginning 020 7 were the original central London range, which is why people still call them “0207” numbers. VOffice provides 020 7 numbers.

How will I receive my messages?

Messages reach you by email, with the caller’s name, number and reason for calling. Voicemails arrive by email as audio attachments. You can change how and where messages are delivered at any time.

What hours do you answer calls?

Our receptionists answer Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm. Tell us how you’d like calls handled outside these hours, for example sent to voicemail and delivered to you by email.

How much does telephone answering cost?

A dedicated London number starts at £60 a month with VO Connect. Live answering in your company name starts at £90 a month. On Link, each transferred call costs £1. Prices exclude VAT, and every plan runs month to month with one month’s notice. Compare plans.

Your address and post

Where are your addresses?

Choose 49 St James’s Street, London SW1A, on the edge of Mayfair, or Blackwell House, Guildhall Yard, London EC2, in the City. Both include full mail handling. See the addresses.

Can I use the address on my website and business cards?

Yes. Your VOffice address can appear on your website, business cards, letterhead and correspondence, so you never need to publish your home address.

How is my post handled?

Your post is received and handled personally by the VOffice team. You choose what happens next: we scan and email it to you, forward it anywhere in the world, or hold it for you to collect.

How often is post forwarded, and what does it cost?

We forward post as it arrives, or on a set day each week if you prefer. Forwarded post is sent in a new envelope and charged at Royal Mail postage plus a 15% handling fee.

Is mail scanning included?

Scanning is an optional extra. Have every letter scanned and emailed as it arrives for £15 a month (up to 40 letters), or, if we’re holding your post, ask for a single item to be scanned for £1 a letter.

Can you accept parcels?

We accept small parcels, but we can’t take large items or anything high-value that needs special storage.

Can I collect my post in person?

Yes. We let you know each time something arrives, and you can collect it from your VOffice address, at St James’s Street or Blackwell House, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Registered office and compliance

Can I use a VOffice address as my registered office?

Yes. Add our registered office service for £25 a month and use your London address for Companies House and official legal correspondence, subject to our standard compliance checks.

Since March 2024, a registered office must be an “appropriate address”, where documents will reach someone acting for the company. A PO box no longer qualifies. A staffed address like ours does.

What is an ACSP?

An Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) is a business registered with Companies House and supervised under UK anti-money-laundering rules to provide company services. VOffice is an ACSP, registration number AP016696.

Is a virtual office legal in the UK?

Yes. Virtual offices are a long-established, legal way for UK businesses to have a professional address and reception. Reputable providers verify every client’s identity under anti-money-laundering rules, as VOffice does.

Can I use a virtual office address for HMRC and VAT?

You can receive HMRC correspondence at your VOffice address. When registering for VAT, HMRC asks for your principal place of business, which should be where the business is run day to day. If that’s somewhere else, check with your accountant which address to give.

Can I use the address for a Google Business Profile?

Possibly. Google decides eligibility based on how your business serves customers, and a virtual office address isn’t automatically eligible. Check Google’s current guidelines before you create or update a profile.
